We visited Mon Ami Gabi this time for Sunday brunch. Again, I suppose it is a very good excuse for sitting outside on a sunny Chicago morning, but add the fun and tasty selection of pseudo-French choices for breakfast, and you have a great experience in store. The outdoor patio itself is adjacent to the parking lot but is well shielded by a fence and flower pots. Visited September 2015
One of our top choices for Italian in the city of Chicago. Both RPM Italian and Osteria Via Stato are very popular and within blocks of each other. RPM Italian tends to get a more vibrant crowd and you must plan ahead and make reservations, especially for weekends. All the food choices are outstanding and the wine list has some spectacular Italian selections. The fresh homemade ricotta with semolina toast is by far our favorite appetizer and is a fairly unique offering. The tomato sauce, cheese and bread are a perfect way to start the evening, and is a great appetizer for four, a little big for two. When in season, the squash blossoms are also a real treat.
The prime meatballs are wonderful, with flavorful seasoning and again, a complementary sauce.
I don’t think we have met a pasta we didn’t like here either. The lobster ravioli, handmade cavatelli and pappardelle bolognese are truly exceptional. Visited September 2015.
