Mon Ami Brunch

Mon Ami Gabi – Oakbrook

by Administrator on September 6, 2015

We visited Mon Ami Gabi this time for Sunday brunch. Again, I suppose it is a very good excuse for sitting outside on a sunny Chicago morning, but add the fun and tasty selection of pseudo-French choices for breakfast, and you have a great experience in store. The outdoor patio itself is adjacent to the parking lot but is well shielded by a fence and flower pots. Visited September 2015

Seasonal Squash Blossoms at RPM Italian

RPM Italian

by Administrator on September 5, 2015

One of our top choices for Italian in the city of Chicago. Both RPM Italian and Osteria Via Stato are very popular and within blocks of each other. RPM Italian tends to get a more vibrant crowd and you must plan ahead and make reservations, especially for weekends. All the food choices are outstanding and the wine list has some spectacular Italian selections. The fresh homemade ricotta with semolina toast is by far our favorite appetizer and is a fairly unique offering. The tomato sauce, cheese and bread are a perfect way to start the evening, and is a great appetizer for four, a little big for two. When in season, the squash blossoms are also a real treat.

The prime meatballs are wonderful, with flavorful seasoning and again, a complementary sauce.

I don’t think we have met a pasta we didn’t like here either. The lobster ravioli, handmade cavatelli and pappardelle bolognese are truly exceptional. Visited September 2015.

Catch 35

We have been to both restaurants of this name, in Chicago and Naperville, and they are both very good. We frequent the location in Naperville much more often. Although the restaurant bills itself as a seafood and premium steak place, the seafood is so good with inventive toppings and seasonings, that we’ve never had a […]

Chicago Prime Steakhouse

One of the food styles for which Chicago has plenty of options is steak, so trying another steakhouse was not high on our list. We tried Chicago Prime because someone we know in the restaurant business took a job there. We have become regulars ever since. This restaurant has a great deal of classic steakhouse […]

Maggiano’s Little Italy

With its huge portions, large bustling dining room and family style specials, Maggiano’s is a good place to go when the appetite is large, when the will power is great or when leftovers are part of the goal. This has been a long time favorite where we have items that we tend to gravitate towards, […]

A wonderful tapas restaurant – we visit the Hillside location regularly although we have also been to the Lincoln Park location. For tapas, ambiance and appropriate background music, this is a great place to go. Just about everything on the menu is wonderful – we are partial to specials and the paella. One of our […]

This is an easy restaurant to find and enjoy. With multiple locations in the Chicagoland area, you are probably never far from Wildfire. We have visited Glenview, Schaumburg, River North, and Lincolnshire. This is a great location for fish or beef, but I will say that anything which takes advantage of the large wood fired […]

Sullivan’s of Lincolnshire

In our ongoing search for al fresco dining, we stumbled onto a wonderful patio at Sullivan’s of Lincolnshire. We were lured by a special three course dinner, from appetizers to desserts, which seemed to include most of our favorites at a very reasonable price. We had dined at the same location before at two different […]

Osteria via Stato

This has to be one of our all time favorite Italian restaurants for several reasons. First of all, their Italian Dinner Party concept, has you just selecting an entree, with everything else being served up based on what’s cooking in the kitchen. There is a lot more predictability than you may think, but the selections […]

Shaw’s Crab House

This Schaumburg restaurant continues to be a favorite for both an upscale night on the town in the main dining room or a more casual evening in the “Oyster Bar”. Lobster, crab, halibut, salmon, tilapia and scallops have all been wonderful on recent visits. We also frequent Shaw’s for sushi, and although the selection is […]
