Mushroom Ravioli

Maggiano’s Little Italy

by Administrator on August 30, 2015

With its huge portions, large bustling dining room and family style specials, Maggiano’s is a good place to go when the appetite is large, when the will power is great or when leftovers are part of the goal. This has been a long time favorite where we have items that we tend to gravitate towards, and that has never disappointed. The wait here is long on weekends, so calling ahead is usually a good idea. We have visited Chicago downtown and Old Orchard locations, and now Schaumburg is the most convenient. The Mozzarella Marinara is a favorite appetizer along with Mushroom Ravioli – these two can make a meal if so inclined, but what’s the fun of that? The Maggiano’s Salad with strong Blue Cheese is also a favorite, although again, take portions into account. For a main course everything is good, but the Chicken Parmesan and Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meat Ball(s) complement each other extremely well. Tiramisu is a dessert staple. Everything else here is good as well, with a good assortment of seating options including booths and a wine list with good variety of both US and Italian by the glass and bottle. Veal Shank at Wildfire

Wildfire

by Administrator on August 28, 2015

This is an easy restaurant to find and enjoy. With multiple locations in the Chicagoland area, you are probably never far from Wildfire. We have visited Glenview, Schaumburg, River North, and Lincolnshire. This is a great location for fish or beef, but I will say that anything which takes advantage of the large wood fired ovens and spit roasters is taking advantage of some of the unique Wildfire flavors. All the barbecue and meats we have had have been excellent, additionally the scallops as appetizers, and house salad have been good as well. Wildfire also has an extensive martini list and also creative wine flights and a good wine list. Last visited: August 2015 (note: As of this writing, Wildfire was featuring a select wine list at 50% off every Monday evening) Link

Osteria via Stato

This has to be one of our all time favorite Italian restaurants for several reasons. First of all, their Italian Dinner Party concept, has you just selecting an entree, with everything else being served up based on what’s cooking in the kitchen. There is a lot more predictability than you may think, but the selections […]

This Schaumburg restaurant continues to be a favorite for both an upscale night on the town in the main dining room or a more casual evening in the “Oyster Bar”. Lobster, crab, halibut, salmon, tilapia and scallops have all been wonderful on recent visits. We also frequent Shaw’s for sushi, and although the selection is […]

Brasserie JO

In an uncommon mid-week trip downtown Chicago, we were lured by our quest to explore new al fresco restaurants. The original weather forecast for the day was beautiful, so we trekked downtown to Brasserie JO. There are only 5 or 6 outdoor tables so get there early, although the next row or two of tables […]
